From complexity to clarity: What schools really want from a modern MIS

From complexity to clarity: What schools really want from a modern MIS

/ Oliver Thorne

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the privilege of sitting down with school leaders, administrators, and teachers from a wide variety of settings – from busy primary schools to high-performing academies. Across these conversations, one thing has become abundantly clear: schools are ready for simplicity, clarity, and cohesion in their MIS.

These sessions weren’t just opportunities to showcase Bromcom’s software capabilities. They were insight-rich conversations that revealed where schools are now and where they want to go.

Unified platforms are a must, not a luxury

A common thread in every demo was the weariness of juggling multiple disconnected systems. Whether it’s separate tools for attendance, behaviour, and parental communication or finance, the administrative overhead is becoming unsustainable.

The feedback was resounding: schools want a one-stop shop – a single login, a unified dashboard, and an ecosystem that works together. It’s one of the many reasons why Bromcom’s ability to bring everything under one roof consistently resonates.

I found that for schools using systems like ScholarPack or Arbor, the promise of consolidation (particularly around finance, communication, and safeguarding) was a compelling reason to explore change.

Efficiency isn’t optional anymore

Time-saving features aren’t just “nice to have”; they’re non-negotiable. School leaders are looking to reduce the time spent on admin so their teams can focus on students.

That’s where Bromcom’s cloud-based architecture stood out. No more manual updates. No version control issues. Just seamless, secure access, wherever and whenever it’s needed.

AI and analytics

A particularly exciting development is how schools are now actively seeking tools that provide meaningful insights, not just raw data.

Whether it was Bromcom’s AI-powered scoring, automated translations for parent messages, or Power BI integration, school leaders want to know not just what’s happening, but why and what to do next.

In my sessions, the AI elements were more than a novelty. They were seen as practical tools to address real-world problems, from tracking safeguarding trends to supporting performance reviews.

Training and support still matter

It’s not just the features that win people over; it’s how confident they feel using them. I made a point in every session to show how Bromcom supports users through recorded webinars, step-by-step onboarding, and the Teachable platform. The feedback was clear: investing in software is only half the equation – investing in people is the other half.

Looking ahead

These demos are more than sales touchpoints. They’re a window into how schools are evolving and how Bromcom is adapting right alongside them. We’re not just responding to the demand for integrated systems, smarter analytics, and seamless workflows. We’re anticipating it.

If there’s one message I’ve taken from this past fortnight, it’s this: schools don’t just want to upgrade their MIS – they want to rethink what their systems can do for them. And at Bromcom, we’re ready to lead that change.
