
Choosing Bromcom MIS
While the decision to switch to Bromcom ultimately lay with their local authority, as Sarah was part of School MIS Review group she had a unique perspective into why Wrexham selected Bromcom MIS over its competitors. To her, it was clear that Bromcom was the winner:
“Bromcom stood out the most. They did a really good sales pitch, they answered all our questions very well, and had the most interaction with us. And because we’re a secondary school, we found some other providers just didn’t have what we needed in terms of capability compared to Bromcom MIS. It was a unanimous decision – everyone chose Bromcom.”
While there were many reasons they chose our MIS, one of the most significant for Sarah was the fact we offer a cloud-based system.
“Our biggest pet peeve with our old system was that everything had to be done on-site during school time. Now we can work from anywhere at any time. Not only was our old provider outdated, we found the support and training they offered was really poor, too, and we didn’t like that we needed to pay for further add-ons to make the system do what we needed it to do, either.”
The onboarding process
Like many schools switching MIS, the staff at The Maelor School were understandably both excited and apprehensive about the change, but the training available made getting started with the new system easy, Sarah continues:
“We really liked that you could dip in and out of the training, and found the training docs especially helpful because we can try and find a solution to an issue in the docs before logging it with Support.”
Our training website not only comes complete with a range of resources including easy-to-navigate courses and live webinars, but it’s also available to all users for free, forever. This means users can quickly upskill in a new area of the MIS or refresh their knowledge when required, and you don’t need to pay for new users to get trained on the system.
Their experience so far with Bromcom
Sarah’s been very happy with their new MIS so far, and finds it a much-needed improvement on their previous system, she says.
“On the whole it’s definitely a great system. We have data confined in better places, not in different sections, and it’s easy for staff to see everything because it’s all there on the student profile. We like that it’s easy to use and everything flows nicely, as well.”
Aside from being user-friendly, Sarah has reported back cost savings, too, by being able to get rid of some of their third-party apps: “We’ve been able to save quite a bit by switching to Bromcom so I’d recommend it to anyone thinking about saving money. Based on the cost of our old MIS last year, by moving to Bromcom’s One-Stop Shop we should be able to save over £3000 pounds. This is a saving of nearly 40% on our MIS.”

“One of our favourite things about Bromcom so far,” Sarah says, “has been the ability to assign students flags to make them part of dynamic groups. This means we can easily identify SEND students and fulfil our legal obligation to do so, but it’s also good for things like making sure substitute teachers don’t give negative behaviour points to students on the autistic spectrum or with ADHD because they can clearly see students with these diagnoses on the register.”
