Analytics on Demand
In education, we collect mountains of data but rarely have the time to truly interrogate it. Yes, readily available analysis has improved over the past five years, but it tends to be siloed: attendance this year versus last, or academic progress term on term. When you want to dig deeper and ask the questions that could genuinely shift practice, the work required quickly becomes prohibitive.
Seemingly simple questions like ‘Is there a correlation between behaviour and attainment at my school?’ can require hours, days, or even weeks of work to answer properly. And that’s assuming you have the expertise on hand to pull the data together, analyse it correctly, and present it in a way that’s actually useful.
This is where Bromcom’s new AI-powered ‘Analytics on Demand’ feature comes in. From a simple prompt within the MIS, you can generate meaningful insights about your school in minutes rather than weeks.
Seeing It in Action
When I first got my hands on the demo, I typed in that exact question to assess whether there was a correlation between behaviour (positive and negative) and attainment at our test school. The system responded with a few clarifying options: what data to include, what format I wanted for the output, and so on. Within a couple of minutes, it returned a full written analysis complete with scatter diagrams, charts, and ranked lists showing how behaviour and attainment aligned across the cohort.
My immediate reaction was healthy scepticism. How can I trust this? To be clear, I’d take the same approach with any consequential report, whether produced by a human or an AI. Both are prone to the occasional mistake, and verification is always wise.
Fortunately, the tool addresses this directly. Alongside the analysis, Bromcom presents the source data as a quick report, so you can see exactly how it was constructed and check a sample of pupils to satisfy yourself that this is information worth acting on. You can save the report, edit it, or create your own dataset and ask the AI to analyse that instead.
A Sceptic Convinced
I’ll admit I approached this with some caution, despite using AI tools daily in both my working and personal life. But it’s clear that AI in education is making significant leaps. I was genuinely impressed by Bromcom’s AI Analysis tool, as were several former school leader colleagues. Even in its current beta phase, it’s easy to see how useful this could be for schools.
Try It at BETT
Want to try this for yourself? The beta version of ‘Analytics on Demand’ will be live at BETT this week. Why not pop by the stand and see what it can do?
