Bromcom now migrates 7 years of MIS data as standard

Bromcom is pleased to announce that it is now migrating seven years of data as standard following a new regulation that requires schools to retain six years of attendance data.

In August, the Department for Education (DfE) published new statutory guidance for maintained schools, academies, independent schools and local authorities (LAs) regarding sharing school attendance data with the DfE. According to School Attendance (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2024, from the 19th of August schools must retain six years of attendance data.

“Registers are legal records and all schools must preserve every entry in the attendance or admission register for 6 years from the date the data was entered.” – ‘Working together to improve school attendance’, Department for Education

Bromcom welcomes this new guidance which will support safeguarding, and are delighted to confirm that all schools that switch to Bromcom will have seven years of their data migrated to their new MIS. By migrating seven years as standard, Bromcom can ensure all required data is captured and its new customers fully comply with the new regulations.

Previously, Bromcom migrated five years at standard, but the increase in the amount of data migrated will not result in additional costs or hassle for its new customers. Its team can migrate more than seven years of data for schools on request, however, any additional years will come with additional charges (please get in touch for more information).

Bromcom takes pride in responding to national policy changes quickly and flexibly to ensure its customers comply with regulations. It also works closely with schools, trusts and LAs to support safeguarding and attendance, placing particular importance on the latter.

Earlier this year, Bromcom conducted a study into the post-Covid attendance crisis with Schoolzone and published its findings in a whitepaper that garnered lots of media attention, including from The Guardian. It offers a wide range of features within its MIS and Vision – its central data hub for trusts and LAs – to help schools improve attendance, too, including highly rated parent portal and parent communications app.
